Carlsbad Half Marathon!

On Sunday (yesterday), my parents & I walked the Carlsbad Half Marathon! My Mom has lost over 55 lbs since last April - by joining Jenny Craig and walking almost every day! My Dad has been her walking partner whenever he can, and has gotten healthy with her. One day I walked 6 miles with my mom -- she was doing great, and I was getting tired! I said Mom, you could walk double this and do a half marathon! I think she thought I was crazy, but decided to sign up anyways. We did a 10 miler last weekend to practice, and yesterday was the big day. Here are the pictures of the race. I am so happy that I was healthy enough to do this, and I am so proud of my parents. My mom has never done anything like this in her life! She is amazing and inspires me every day. 

They came over Saturday night and I made them some turkey spaghetti and salad for dinner. We needed our carbs! They stayed over and we all woke up at 4:15am yesterday. We had some oatmeal and fruit and we were on our way. Stopped for some coffee, and got to the expo around 6am! Here are our bibs! I had never seen them with the names on them, so I thought that was pretty cool. 


We had to wait till 7am to get in and get our t-shirts. It was pretty chilly outside, so we waited in a heated tent with other participants who were resting and stretching. There is an FRS can beside my foot down there, which I thought was pretty cool because they had a guy handing them out and my Dad used to work for their company.


 Ready to rock, in line to start the race.. 



Miles 2 & 3 were a little rough for me, but we quickly got to the halfway point and stopped to use the restroom and take a photo with the amazing ocean view! 

 A lady named Janice walked the entire race with us because her daughters left her. She was nice and a ship shape 65+ year old lady! Wow! We struggled a bit around mile 11-12, and I had 1 more bathroom stop, then jogged back to my group. I think this hurt my knee, but I didn't want everyone else to lose time. Our goal was to finish in under 4.5 hours at about a 20 min mile... and we were averaging about 18 min a mile!! Go us! This is us after we finished! We linked arms and the announcer yelled out TEAM CANNON!!! It was a proud moment for all of us, and yes I was a bit teary eyed :). I hope the photographer got a good shot of us. AND we finished in 4 hours!! And we beat about 80 people! Our goal was to finish and my mom's other goal was not to come in last. So we did good!


The medals and shirts at the race that we got were nice! We went to Souplantation afterward to get lunch. We were so hungry and tired! And I forgot my flip flops and I really wanted to take my shoes off. :P

Healthy Travel Tips!


Healthy Travel Tips!!

My boyfriend & I will be taking a trip here soon and we finally got back into the swing of the gym & healthy eatin’ again! So – we have been trying to figure out how to stay on the diet-friendly track while we eat when we are away from home. Here are some things I came up with for us, by checking out tons of articles and thinking about what would probably work best for us. We are lucky that the hotel we are staying at gives out free passes to a Gold’s Gym down the street – so we will definitely be hitting that up! Enjoy!

When booking –
  • Request fridge and microwave be in the hotel room if possible.
  • Ask about what fitness facilities will be available.

Bring in your packed bags --
  • Small George Foreman – make grilled chicken, turkey & fish – even veggies in hotel room.
  • Ziploc bags & Tupperware to bring your food on the road with you for the day.
  • Dry brown rice, oatmeal – maybe rice cakes and corn tortillas, wheat tortillas, tuna cans, peanut butter, nuts & Stevia.
  • Any condiments you have to have – hot sauce, salt & pepper, mustard.
  • Dry protein powder & something to blend or shake them up in.
  • Vitamins & supplements.
  • Collapsible freezer bag that can be used in the car when you arrive.

Bring on the plane –
  • Precooked protein pancakes in Ziploc bags.
  • Low sugar protein bars.
  • Apple & nuts.
  • Plain salad purchased in the airport deli.

When you get there –
  • Buy meat at the grocery store (unless your flight is less than 6 hours – in which case you can freeze your meat in Ziploc bags and then put them in the fridge @ the hotel).
  • Buy big water bottles.
  • Buy some things at the store like veggies & berries, bananas, lemons. 
  • Protein bars if necessary – low sugar.
  • Frozen veggies in steamer packs.

Eating out –
  • Salad with plain chicken and balsamic vinegar for dressing.
  • Lean meat with a plain potato, yam or rice & veggies with no sauce.
  • Egg white omelets with veggies – not cooked in butter.
  • Protein should be grilled, broiled or baked.

and I was still freezing in the wind! Fun night though & yummy! :)

2011 Fit Chic Workout Wear

Gilt Groupe has a great sale going on right now! Fitness stuff for the new year. Yesterday, I ordered 2 things for moi.. New Balance 7500 Running sneaker in Gray, for $49.00. I haven't seen this color anywhere else, so I really liked it. I couldn't find the exact color on Amazon to show you, but here is the pic from Gilt -love them!! I am walking a half marathon on Jan 22nd, so I am hoping they get here in time for that, since I need new running shoes! I also got some running shorts for $14 - New Balance Momentum, pictured below. Mine are black & white though.  They have Reebok and Puma on sale today, and tons of other fitness related items. Just what I love --- fitness & fashion in one place!! Whoohoo!! Seven jeans on sale today. TROUBLE!! :P
